Japoly was born out of necessity, as a natural expansion to the most tragic of jokes, that the best and the worst football players in the country share the same fate – Anonymity. Ideated and executed by just one of the many ‘could have been’ footballers in the country, Japoly – these 1v1 arenas, the players, the crowd, the stories, the music, all of it – is a celebration of the maniacs that are Indian sportspersons (children and adult alike), who won’t stop playing even when they’re sure to live and die in the layered, impenetrable, regenerating cage of corruption. Such delusion, such nonsensical romanticism, this absurdity of the spirit, this extreme stubbornness of the soul; it cannot be contained in a joke. It deserves a carnival.
Mission:
The majority of talent in our country has to fight against their family, society, and the system for the simple joy of kicking a ball. That fact is, we’re competing in a different World Cup altogether. Our mission is to become the space where players are able to share their stories, their pain and joy, the love that they – and those before them – have had to hide and suppress for years and years.
